Glen Keen Farm on the Wild Atlantic Way near Louisburgh has been voted as the Best Tour Feature in the prestigious CIE Tours International awards presented in Dublin Castle last night. Ashford Castle in Cong was voted the best visited hotel in Connacht while Hotel Westport also won a top award.

Water Babies winter term gets ready to splash down

Water Babies winter term starts on Monday November 9 and bookings are being taken for classes. Classes take place in Hotel Westport, Hotel Ballina, and Breaffy House Resort. Water Babies is run by Jamie and Lisa Cobbe and currently teaches more than 650 babies and toddlers per week in Galway, Sligo, and Mayo.

Fab fortieth Westport Arts Festival starts next week

The 40th Westport Arts Festival kicks off next Wednesday, September 30, and this year’s festival features an eclectic mix of events for all ages across all art forms. The literary programme for this year’s festival includes the award-winning writer, John Banville, whose novel, The Sea, won the Man Booker Prize. There will also be readings from Donal Ryan, Martin Dyar, Geraldine Mills, and Orfhlaith Foyle. Dr Eimear O’Connor, art historian and author and curator, will give a presentation on Seán Keating and the Art of the Rebellion. The winners of the festival’s Poetry Competition will be announced at a special prize-giving evening of poetry and music in The Creel, featuring writer and singer-songwriter, Orlagh de Bhaldraithe.

Westport House wins again

The best of what Ireland has to offer families was revealed this week with the announcement of the 2015 Primary Times STAR Awards, and for the fifth year in a row, Westport House has been honoured with an award. Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park was voted as Best Family Visitor Attraction (West) for the fourth year, and its ghoulishly good Halloween Fest event was awarded the Best Halloween Event (West) for the second time. The results of these unique awards, which attract thousands of entries from parents, provide a vital snapshot of what is tops with families in Ireland.
